John445,
‘The Times' seem to be a little on the heavy side.’

Depending on what you are comparing them to, they are a little heavy.

‘What are Time cleats like? Are they small lightweight cleats?’

Depending on your shoes (if it’s time compatible or not) the cleats can save some weight. They are a two piece affair. The from clip is made out of plastic and can wear quickly. They are available in brass, but I have heard that the brass front clip can cause wear on the pedal (would rather replace cleats than entire pedal). The rear clip is brass and does not wear very fast… pretty thick.

I got a pair of Alpinestars on close-out only to find out I needed an adaptor plate. It added some weight but most importantly, the plate added some height to the pedal. I’ve gotten used to it now, but some people don’t care for that added pedal height.

I have a set of Equipe Pro Ti, Challenge Pro, and one other pair (I can’t remember the model) that is a little further down the pecking order. They have ALL worked very well for me.

‘I've heard alot of good things about Time pedals but still they seem to be the minority; why?’

If I would guess, I would throw out the possibility of weight. 350 grams vs. 266 grams is a lot for some people.
